New wave of “Emotet” attacks over the festive season [2020-12-22] Online blackmailers try to take advantage of the holidays
As was to be feared, the activity of “Emotet” spreaders increases again shortly before Christmas – just like last year.
As of today, the Lower Saxony CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) is again reporting increased attack attempts with the Emotet malware. The CERT-Bund of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and other state CERTs have also reported findings. It can be assumed that this is a broader action.
The procedure again resembles the attack patterns known from the past. E-mails with “real mail histories” and with partly password-protected zip archives or Word documents occur.
