3-Cycle project: Recycling of plastics with 3D-printing

As with the rapid development of both large-scale industrial and small-scale affordable desktop 3D-printers, FDM 3D-printing becomes more and more popular and enables new ways of creating products. With filament as input material for 3D-printers made from waste plastics economical and environmental benefits result for the process. Additionally the use of recycled material as input to a manufacturing process can contribute significantly towards more sustainable manufacturing. The recycling filament can have a negative influence on the product quality depending on material purity, polymer compatibility and the number of cycles the material has experienced. The extent of material degradation due to recycling is also part of 3-Cycle project which is strongly emphazised on student exchange connecting TU Braunschweig and BITS Pilani. The project is funded by AKB Stiftung and scheduled from 01.01.2015 unti 31.12.2015.
