History of the partnership between IWF/TU Braunschweig and BITS Pilani

During the BMBF campaign „India and Germany – Strategic Partners for Innovation“ in 2008 it was possible to establish contact with the leading Indian universities and industrial partners in the field of automotive research and sustainable products, resulting in cooperation agreements with the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) in Pilani. In 2009 the Indo-German project “Lean & Green – Efficiency and Effectiveness in Production” was initiated. Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademische Austauschdienst – DAAD) through its programme “New passage to India”, it was possible to establish an exchange of students and researchers between the BITS and the IWF of TU Braunschweig. Building on this, different seminars and workshop have been organised in India and Germany. Furthermore, the joint work resulted in various scientific publications that have been released at conferences in Pilani and Braunschweig among others.
